2026 could be the year that Apple enters the foldable space.
Haitong Securities analyst Jeff Pu wrote in his latest research report that Apple plans to release two foldable devices in 2026.
In line with previous rumours, Pu says the first foldable Apple device is an iPad/Mac hybrid which is slated to launch in Q2 2026. The second foldable Apple device is the foldable iPhone and it will arrive in late 2026.
DigiTimes recently reported that Apple's first foldable iPhone could launch in 2026 as the iPhone maker signed a panel supply contract with Samsung Display earlier this year.
DigiTimes' report shares the same prediction by The Information that the foldable iPhone has a clamshell folding mechansim that is similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series.
However, Pu's June report describes the foldable iPhone as having a "wrap-around foldable design" that is similar to the Huawei Mate Xs 2. As for the foldable iPad/Mac hybrid device, Pu claimed that it will resemble the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.
That said, we are still two years away from these purported launch timeframes and the final designs could easily still change. Nonetheless, Apple could find itself at the right time and space as the foldable market is expected to garner 5% of the global phone market in 2027.
