Acer’s Nitro 5 gaming laptop hasn’t been the most interesting of notebooks, but it just got a nice spec bump with Intel’s latest 8th-generation mobile processors.

Specifically, it will be available with the new six-core Core i7 processors, so you stand to benefit if you play many CPU-bound titles or do a lot of video editing.

That said, it’s still very much an entry-level notebook, and it can be equipped with up to just an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. However, you’ll be able to configure it with up to 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB PCIe SSD.

Alternatively, there’s support for Intel Optane memory, so you can get some of the benefits of an SSD, such as increased responsiveness and faster load times, at a fraction of the cost.

Wireless connectivity is handled by an Intel Wireless-AC 9560 2x2 module that supports Gigabit speeds.

When it comes to connectivity options, the Nitro 5 comes with a decent selection, including a USB-C port, HDMI 2.0, and Gigabit Ethernet.

The base model with a quad-core Intel Core i5-8300H (2.3GHz, 8MB L3 cache) processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 starts at US$749.99.
