Acer is bringing back glasses-free 3D with new SpatialLabs-branded monitor and notebook

Bored of your typical 2D gaming monitors? Want something a little cooler for that wow factor?

Well, that wow factor is possible with Acer's newly announced Acer Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition laptop gaming monitor that lets you game in 3D without needing any specialised glasses.

With built-in eye-tracking cameras and a special lenticular lens layer, the monitor uses SpatialLabs software to develop individual 3D profiles with existing depth information from games. Acer claims the 3D Ultra mode has "greater depth and geometry in every scene" and offers a wider collection of 3D configurations to let gamers customise the effect to their liking.

The panel is a 27-inch 4K display capable of switching between 2D and 3D, so you'll have the best of both worlds. It has a max brightness of 400 nits, a Delta E under 2, and a snappy 160Hz refresh rate. It also offers NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync to avoid screen tearing.

But what's a 3D experience without sound? The Predator SpatialLabs View 27 has two 2.5W speakers that use AI-driven beamforming transmissions and head-tracking to make it feel like the user is wearing surround-sound headphones.

If you're wondering exactly how many games support the 3D effects, don't worry. Acer has a list of games that currently support both 3D+ and 3D Ultra modes, with big AAA titles like God of War, Dark Souls III, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and many more. The company also claims more game profiles will be added every month, so that's definitely a good sign of things to come.

The Acer Predator SpatialLabs View 27 gaming monitor will be coming to North America in Q2 2024 with prices starting at US$1,999, and to EMEA in Q1 2024, starting at €1,999.

For people who might be more interested in creating 3D content, there's also the Acer Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition notebook that comes packed with SpatialLabs' advanced optical solutions. The notebook is powered by an Intel Core i7-13620H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 notebook GPU at maxed-out specs.

Using stereoscopic 3D, the notebook ships with SpatialLabs Experience Center Pro, which contains a range of SpatialLabs applications and add-ons to elevate the 3D experience for both creators and enthusiasts. SpatialLabs Go, for example, uses Acer's proprietary AI models to transform 2D content into 3D, whether it's a photo or even a YouTube video.

For creators, the SpatialLabs Model Viewer application can import and render CGI and CAD files into 3D illustrations. The notebook also supports Acer's OpenXR runtime for 3D content creation, along with plug-ins for Unity and Unreal Engine for 3D projects. The Copilot application is preinstalled on the notebook and there's even a dedicated Copilot key like many of Acer's other new notebooks announced at CES 2024.

The 15.6-inch 4K UHD display goes up to 380-nits peak brightness, covers 100% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut and can be switched between standard 2D and 3D viewing. Acer's AI-driven PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice also help make video calls a great experience with features like background noise reduction, advanced background blur and more.

The Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition can have up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB of M.2 PCIe SSD storage, along with a range of connectivity options, including a HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 port and support for Wi-Fi 6.

With availability starting in North America come February 2024, the Acer Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition will start at US$1,399.99. The laptop will then be available in EMEA in March with prices starting at €1,499, and in China in April, from CN¥14,999 onwards.
