First Looks: The ROG Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Special Edition

ASUS ROG announced their collaboration with celebrated music producer, Alan Walker, with a custom edition of the ROG Zephyrus G14 that was specially made for the artist way back last June. According to ROG, the notebook became such a hit with Walker’s fanbase that the company will now make a custom-designed version for consumers to purchase starting today.

Now, the Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Edition isn’t a new notebook per se. It’s based on the original Zephyrus G14 that I covered last year. I was suitably impressed with its design, form factor and specifications – it being the first gaming notebook to feature AMD’s newest (then) mobile processor.

The Alan Walker Edition, however, takes the Zephyrus G14 to another level. The lid is laced with a reflective belt that beckons you to “JOIN THE REPUBLIC” and “JOIN THE WALKERS”. If that alone doesn't tell you how much you idolise the DJ, then his many logos - resembling an A superimposed over a W - that adorned around the notebook will surely do.

Make no mistake, this gaming notebook is a great looking fan service.

Bright blue is Alan Walker's favorite colour and you'll find splashes of it used sparingly across the keyboard.

The amount of Alan Walker's name splashed all over the notebook, surprisingly, doesn't feel intrusive or obnoxiously crass as seen with some other special editions. So, in case you've placed this Zephyrus G14 notebook face down, it's still impossible to not recognise the notebook's special edition status.

Now here's the really cool part. The packaging that Zephyrus G14 becomes a DJ mixer deck when connected to the notebook via USB-C. Plug the box into the notebook, and a preloaded software called ROG Remix opens automatically. ROG Remix allows you to play a song within that program, and the various touch-buttons on the packaging allows you to tweak it (as you would like a DJ) - speed up the track, start/stop as well as a few other basic effects.

For S$,3098, the ROG Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Edition comes with plenty of swags that's bound to be appreciated by fans. Personally, I dig the notebook sleeve the most.

I mean, just check out how cool it looks (it does for me, at least!). There's also plenty of paddings on all sides to provide ample cushioning for your precious notebook against knocks or drops.
