Macs and Apple Watches may be hit by US tariffs from 1 August

The impact of US tariffs may be more widespread as Apple expanded production in the region.

US President Trump’s new wave of tariffs could hit several Apple products manufactured in Southeast Asia.

The Trump administration issued letters to leaders of at least 14 countries—including Thailand and Malaysia—informing them of the new tariff rates that are set to take effect on 1 August.

Since Apple assembles some Macs and Apple Watches in Thailand and Malaysia, imports from the two countries will soon be subject to tariffs as high as 36%, which could result in higher prices.

Apple’s strategy to expand production beyond China to reduce supply chain risks appears to be falling short this time as the Trump administration plans to expand tariffs to more countries in the coming days.

More Apple products, including the iPhone, could be affected. Analysts estimate that iPhone prices could increase by up to 43%. And even though Singapore unaffected by the new tariffs at the time of publishing, experts believe consumers here are still likely to face higher iPhone prices in the future.
