Apple’s rumoured low-cost MacBook could be much cheaper than you think

It could also be Apple’s first MacBook to be powered by an iPhone chip.

Apple’s rumoured low-cost MacBook might come with a price tag that competes with Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops.

According to DigiTimes, supply chain sources claim the low-cost MacBook might launch with prices starting between US$599 and US$699 (~S$771 and ~S$900). If accurate, it would make the low-cost MacBook significantly more affordable than Apple’s own MacBook Air (M4) – which starts at S$1,499.

DigiTimes expects component production for the low-cost MacBook to begin by the end of this quarter, with final assembly slated for Q4 and a launch window of late 2025 or early 2026.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported on the low-cost MacBook in June, revealing that it will have a 13-inch display, A18 Pro chip and four colour options (silver, blue, pink and yellow).

It is speculated that Apple is following the iPad strategy of using A-series chips to power entry-level models. The low-cost model is estimated to boost total MacBook shipments to hit 25 million units next year.
