Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) and Raspberry Pi jointly launched a new DIY camera module for makers: the Raspberry Pi AI Camera.
Sony's chipset-making business and DIY brand Raspberry Pi have a new camera that unlocks edge AI development, allowing makers and prototypers to create platforms that uses visual intelligence data.
The Raspberry Pi AI Camera uses a Sony IMX500 intelligent vision sensor. It contains on-chip AI image processing, allowing its users to skip the need for a graphics processing unit (GPU) and a variety of other components to get visual AI up and running.
For those not familiar with AI and cameras, visual intelligence goes beyond typical image and footage capture: it gives cameras the ability to recognise, track, and monitor captured objects, which can be helpful in surveillance, unmanned observation (like farming or research), and many other applications. Raspberry Pi has uploaded an example of what its new AI Camera module can do.

This camera is compatible with Raspberry’s single-board computers, including last year’s Raspberry Pi 5.

Raspberry Pi said that the component is now available on its website and via approved resellers at a recommended price of US$70 (~S$90.03).
