Powering Smart Cars of the Future with NVIDIA Tegra K1

If things go according to NVIDIA’s plans, cars could get a lot better with the NVIDIA Tegra K1. Read on to uncover how this Kepler-based chip may possibly be at the heart of your car’s electronics.

According to NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, the car will be the most important mobile computing device for the end-consumer. Thus, he strongly believes in bringing the computing process of the newly launched Tegra K1 chip to the heart of the automobile’s electronics.

From infotainment, navigation, to advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), the Tegra K1 visual computing module (VCM) offers a programmable platform to drive all these systems. Hence, it is possible to download updates like new algorithms to improve the performance of the vehicle. According to the company, the Tegra K1 VCM is able to run “various operating systems including QNX, Android, Linux or Windows.” It will able made available to automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
