NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 benchmark results have surfaced online

A new NVIDIA Turing graphics card may be on the way. A new entry for the GeForce RTX 2060 has appeared in the collection of Final Fantasy XV benchmarks.

At the time of writing, the entry seems to have been removed, which further lends credence to its legitimacy. However, I’ve included a screenshot below captured by Hexus that shows how it stacks up against a range of other cards.

NVIDIA’s Turing cards have so far been very fast and very expensive, but they’ve so far been targeted at enthusiasts and folks with deeper pockets. The GeForce GTX 1060 has been the reigning mainstream card for a while now, and gamers have been waiting a long time for its successor.

If the leaked benchmark is anything to go by, the GeForce RTX 2060 is hopefully not that far away.

As things stand, the GeForce GTX 1060 has been immensely popular, sitting at the top of the Steam Hardware Survey with 14.3 per cent of respondents using it. In comparison, the GeForce GTX 1070 has just a 3.8 per cent share of the pie.

The RTX branding for the GeForce RTX 2060 also indicates that it will come with ray tracing acceleration baked in. Ray tracing isn’t a walk in the park for even the top-end RTX cards, so we’ll have to see how this plays out on the GeForce RTX 2060.

According to the leaked FFXV benchmarks, which were conducted at a 4K resolution and High settings, the GeForce RTX 2060 is around 41 per cent behind the GeForce RTX 2070. It’s close to the GeForce GTX 1070 though, which seems a decent enough performance improvement over the GeForce GTX 1060.

The biggest question then is how NVIDIA will price the card, as it’ll be a big factor in determining if the GeForce RTX 2060 can truly become the new go-to option for 1080p gaming.
