NVIDIA Announces New Flagship Quadro K6000 GPU
NVIDIA has announced its flagship Quadro K6000 GPU. Touted as the fastest GPU to date, it features the Kepler GK110 chip, coupled with 12GB of video memory. The new GPU aims to address the ever-growing requirements of visual computing from the media, manufacturing and energy exploration industries.

The Quadro K6000 GPU shares the same GK110 chip as the GTX Titan; however, the Quadro K6000 has 15 active streaming multiprocessors (SMX), just one more than the 14 that the GTX Titan possesses. Hence, the Quadro K6000 has a total of 2880 CUDA Cores, compared to the 2688 CUDA Cores of the GTX Titan. The key performance features and capabilities of the Quadro K6000 are as follows:
- 12GB of GDDR5 video memory
- Features the Kepler GK110 GPU with 15 active SMXs, for a total of 2880 CUDA Cores
- Memory bandwidth of 288GB/s
- Supports up to four simultaneous displays, and up to 4k resolution with DisplayPort 1.2

Compared to its predecessor, the Quadro K5000, the newer GPU boasts of compute performance improvements of almost up to 2.4 times, in terms of single precision floating point operations. Early production samples of the Quadro K6000 were shipped to companies in the media, manufacturing and energy exploration industries. Due to its powerful GPU and 12GB video frame buffer, the card was able to generate more realistic renders, with faster processing times, which eventually led to substantial cost savings for these companies.
First to enjoy the benefits of the Quadro K600 were leading corporations like Pixar, Nissan, Apache Corporation, and the Weather Channel's WSI division. From the testimonials gathered by NVIDIA, the Quadro K6000 worked seamlessly with the companies' existing applications and operations. The Quadro K6000 is slated for a worldwide release this fall through leading OEMs and resellers; however, its pricing details aren't available yet.
