Intel has officially announced the first 10th Gen Intel Core processors at Computex 2019, which are built on the chip maker’s 10nm process technology, new “Sunny Cove” core architecture and new Gen11 graphics engine. These new chips will also bring high-performance AI to the PC at scale with Intel Deep Learning Boost.
Dubbed Ice Lake, the 10nm processor will be launched for the mainstream mobile market first (Intel has not made any announcement for the desktop market yet) and is expected to take thin-and-light notebooks to the next level by offering:
- Intelligent performance: These 10th Gen processors are Intel’s first processors designed to enable high performance AI on the notebook.
- Integrated graphics boost: The processors also come with the new Intel Iris Plus graphics, which is based on the Gen11 integrated graphics architecture. Benchmarks seem to show that it will run games like DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: GO and even the new Total War: Three Kingdom comfortably at 1080p at 60fps. Watch out for new features that will be supported with the new integrated graphics engine.
- Best-in-class connectivity: It will also deliver both integrated Thunderbolt 3 and integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) for the first time (also known as Wireless 802.11ax standard), to enable faster (nearly 3x) wireless speeds alongside the fastest and most versatile port available.
The 10th Gen Intel Core processors will range from Intel Core i3 to Intel Core i7, with up to 4 cores and 8 threads, up to 4.1GHz max turbo frequency, and up to 1.1GHz core graphics frequency. It is expected to be shipped with all Project Athena notebooks later this year.
