Researchers at Intel Labs have revealed their new low-power graphics execution core, built on the 22nm fabrication process. It is apparent this upcoming graphics core is targeted at mobile devices where power efficiency is crucial.

The researchers also touted the performance advantages of the new GPU core, with claims of a 2.7 times increase in GFLOPS-per-watt performance at near-threshold voltage during low-power operations, and a 1.4 times increase in peak GFLOPS per watt. The new graphics core was announced by Intel Labs at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference that is currently in progress at San Francisco, United States.
As observed by The Tech Report, these performance claims may be supported by the upcoming graphics core’s adoption of the 22nm process technology with 3D Tri-Gate transistors. There isn’t any launch date announced but we may be able to witness its implementation in systems on a chip (SoCs) that will replace the this year.
