Intel Continues to Dominate Graphics Market with over 60% Market Share
Jon Peddie Research (JPR) announced for the 3rd quarter of 2011, Intel's market share of graphics shipments is 60.4%. AMD maintained its share while NVIDIA's slid.

According to Jon Peddie Research (JPR), Intel's market share of graphics shipments is 60.4% for the 3rd quarter of this year. The report also indicated this quarter’s change in total shipments from last quarter increased to 16.7%. This is in line with seasonal demand as suppliers and vendors stock up their wares for the holiday seasons.

Intel's share gain is attributed to its Sandy Bridge processors shipments, and it had a very strong double digit growth in desktops and notebooks. Its gain translated to AMD's loss of market share while NVIDIA's share also declined due to its exiting from the integrated segments. The strength of Intel's market share was also noted in an earlier JPR report in August. With courtesy of its Fusion chips, graphics shipments from AMD has experienced a 9.9% growth in shipments but it still continues to lag behind Intel for market share.
According to JPR, graphics chips (GPUs) and chips with graphics (IGPs, HPUs, and EPGs) are leading indicators for the PC market. At least one and often two GPUs are present in every PC shipped. Almost 92 million PCs shipped worldwide this quarter, an increase of 8.8% compared to last quarter (based on an average of reports from Dataquest, IDC, and HSI).
