Gigabyte announces X99M-Gaming 5 mATX motherboard

Gigabyte has released the X99M-Gaming 5 motherboard and it appears to be the first Intel X99-based board of the mATX form factor. Read on to uncover more of its hardware specifications.

Gigabyte has released the X99M-Gaming 5 mATX motherboard. The company has claimed that this new component is an industry's first. With its Intel X99 chipset, this board supports Intel Haswell-E processors in the LGA2011-v3 package. At the same time, it also touts support for quad-channel DDR4 memory modules.

Despite its diminutive dimensions, the board is capable of accommodating up to two graphics cards for either SLI or CrossFireX configurations. This is due to the presence of a pair of PCIe Gen 3.0 X16 slots, and each is capable of running at x16 speed when a compatible, 40-lane processor (the Intel Core i7-5690X or the Core i7-5930K) is installed. Else, the second PCIe 3.0 x16 slot will operate at half speed. Staying true to its Gaming pedigree, the X99M-Gaming comes with the Killer E2200 networking chipset to reduce online gaming latency. Its onboard audio is driven by the Realtek ALC1150 codec; instead of the Creative Sound Core 3D quad-core audio chip. However, the new board does feature the same bi-polarized Nichicon audio capacitors and upgradable OP-AMPs that were seen on some of the company's Intel series 9 boards.

There isn't a lack of storage connectivity options as the board features 10 SATA 6Gbps connectors and a SATA Express connector. One unique feature is the pair of stacked M.2 sockets. The M.2 Socket 3 PCIe connector supports M.2 Socket 3 SSDs, with "M Key" edge connectors. The other M.2 Socket 1 connector is for a corresponding M2 Wi-Fi module. The local availability of the X99-M Gaming isn't confirmed but do expect to pay a premium as its full-sized counterpart, the GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI is priced at S$579.
