ASRock has uploaded a teaser video on its YouTube channel that confirms that it’s jumping into the graphics card market.
The cards will be sold under the Phantom Gaming brand, which quite clearly suggests cards targeted at gamers rather than miners as was the initial assumption.
The video is far from a full product reveal, and it’s unsurprisingly sparing with the details. In addition to half-obscured shots of various features of card, ASRock also dropped a bunch of vague descriptors like “Fast”, “Mysterious”, and “Unpredictable”.
Still, the video quite clearly shows what appears to be a dual-fan cooler and an angular, faceted design.
The GPU market is in an odd place these days. Demand is booming because of the cryptocurrency mining craze, but that’s also led to major supply shortages and rising prices for gamers. Furthermore, competition is stiff, and allocation of GPUs remains difficult.
Nevertheless, ASRock is a well-known name in the motherboard space, so that may help it in its foray into the graphics card market. Once its cards drop, you can be sure that all eyes will be on it to see how it measures up against the more established players.
