ARM and TSMC Collaborate on 64-bit ARM CPUs with FinFET Transistors
ARM Holdings and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) have announced their agreement to produce 64-bit ARM chips for use in mobile and enterprise markets that require both high performance and energy efficiency. These chips will feature TSMC's FinFET transistors that promises leakage reduction.
ARM Holdings and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) have announced their agreement to produce 64-bit ARM chips for use in mobile and enterprise markets that require both high performance and energy efficiency. These chips will feature TSMC's FinFET transistors and will be manufactured on the company's 20-nanometer (nm) fabrication process.

These 64-bit ARM CPUs will be based on ARMv8 architecture as the company foresees a future need for 64-bit computing requirements in its current traditional market of smartphones and tablet devices. It also underscores the plans of the company to expand into enterprise computing systems that require power efficiency as well as the ability to address up to 1 terabyte (TB) of system memory.
