AMD Shipped More Graphics Chips than NVIDIA Last Quarter

If you have been following the graphics market, a report stating that AMD/ATI managed to ship more graphics processors (discrete and integrated) than its main rival, NVIDIA, should come as no surprise. After all, NVIDIA has had issues getting its DirectX 11 parts out in time to compete with AMD's Radeon HD 5000 series. However, while AMD had the lead in the discrete graphics department, it was a slim 2% more than NVIDIA; it was in the integrated graphics market that we saw AMD leading 24.5% to NVIDIA's 19.8%

Tech Report - For the graphics market as a whole, which includes integrated graphics, AMD reportedly had a 24.5% market share, while Nvidia secured only 19.8%. AMD managed to bag 51% of discrete graphics shipments, too, while Nvidia got 49%. Those are pretty sizable gains by AMD compared to the same quarter a year ago. The CNet story recounts that AMD's overall market share was just 18.2% to Nvidia's 29.6% in Q2 2009, and discrete shipments were split 41% to 59% in Nvidia's favor.
