AMD cuts Radeon RX 460 and 470 prices in response to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 launch

AMD has dropped the price on two of its three Radeon RX 400 series cards, ahead of NVIDIA’s launch of its new GeForce GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti cards. Starting from today, the Radeon RX 460 will retail at US$100, while the Radeon RX 470 will now cost at US$170 (they used to cost US$109 and US$179 respectively).

NVIDIA’s new GeForce cards are slated to launch tomorrow, with a price tag of US$109 for the GeForce GTX 1050 and US$139 for the 1050 Ti.

AMD’s pre-emptive price drop comes just as the GeForce GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti are set to compete in the budget card segment with the Radeon RX 460 and 470. And considering that some have even considered these two cards to be a tad bit overpriced for the performance they offered, the price adjustment is a welcome move.

That said, it’s probably best to wait for full performance reviews to be out before moving to buy the newly discounted cards. NVIDIA says that the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is an average of 40 per cent faster and 128 per cent more power efficient than the Radeon RX 460 at stock speeds, and it will be interesting to see how these claims pan out.
