You can now pre-order the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID
In addition to fingerprint sign-ins, you can also use your fingertip to perform actions like purchasing an app from the Windows Store.
Last October when Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 4 tablet and the new Type Cover, the company also unveiled a version of the latter that has a fingerprint reader. Now in March, Microsoft is finally ready to ship it outside of the U.S. and Canada.
The Surface Pro 4 Type Cover with Fingerprint ID is now available for pre-order through MicrosoftStore.com, Surface partner retailers, and authorized resellers in 26 additional markets. In Singapore, you can pre-order it via the online Microsoft Store at a price of S$249, with a March 15 ship date. Only the Onxy (black) color version is available. The regular Surface Pro 4 Type Cover costs S$199.
Apart from being thinner and lighter than the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover, the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover also has a more spaced-out key set and a bigger trackpad for more precise control and navigation. Of course, the main draw for this particular version of the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover is the built-in fingerprint scanner. With it, you can store all of your passwords in one place with Microsoft Passport and use your fingertip to perform actions like purchasing an app from the Windows Store, made possible by Windows Hello. As this cover is compatible with Surface Pro 3, it means Pro 3 users can get to enjoy Windows Hello by way of fingerprint sign-ins, as the Surface Pro 3 doesn’t have a Windows Hello-compatible camera.
