Philips revamps USB-C monitor lineup to focus on high-speed data transfers and super-fast charging

USB-C monitors are all the rage these days, thanks to features like fast laptop charging and quick data transfer rates between devices. To help customers better pick out a model that fits their needs, Philips has recently revamped their USB-C monitor categories into four distinct options for different target audiences.

Pro Docking

The Pro Docking category is designed for creative professionals working as graphic artists, designers and video editors. There's support for Thunderbolt 4 and data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. There's also USB PD 100W charging for rapid charging of devices from the monitor while transferring data at the same time. 

Four USB hub extensions offer extra connectivity options while the DisplayPort Out feature allows for multiple monitors to be daisy-chained together for more screen real estate. The monitors in this category also come with Windows Hello webcams for biometric facial recognition, and can be switched off via a physical camera switch for extra privacy.

USB-C Docking

Keeping the needs of business executives in mind, the USB-C Docking category prioritises streamlined workflow capabilities with a single reversible USB-C cable enabling a cleaner workspace. There are also four USB hub extensions, daisy-chain support and Ethernet support reaching up to 1Gbps for better connectivity and productivity.

USB PD 65W charging allows for most non-gaming laptops and other devices to be charged directly from the monitor. 

Models in this category (the first two digits inform you of their screen size) include the 273S1 and 243S1.

 

USB-C Plus

Designed for people still lucky enough to be primarily working from home, monitors in the USB-C Plus category come with two USB-C extensions to support video and audio options for conference calls or Zoom meetings. There is also USB PD 65W charging to keep laptops or other devices powered up through the monitor.

Targeted towards remote workers and digital nomads, the monitors in this category support USB-C display connectivity and USB PD 15W charging, which is adequate to juice up your smartphone. Being able to connect a phone or laptop to a monitor via a single USB-C cable that can also be used for charging your mobile phone or other accessories can simplify a frequent traveller's setup.

There are also portable-sized screens (three 16-inch models) that can offer you a larger screen to work off your phone to enjoy your movie or help your process documents better on a big screen. It's also useful as a secondary mobile screen for presentations and conferencing. and travel lighter while still having a larger screen to work on.
