The L605 has a top speed of 13.7ipm when printing in black and 7.3ipm when printing in color, and its inks yield up to 6,000 pages in black and 6,500 pages in color. How is it different from the pricier L655 then? We tell you.
If you’ve been hankering for the Epson L655 ink tank printer but have balked at its S$539 price tag, know that Epson has a very similar and more affordable model called the L605.
Priced at S$449, the Epson L605 has actually been available since the Comex show in September. Like the L655, it’s an ink tank printer, and each set of its high volume inks (made up of pigment black ink and color dye inks) can print up to 6,000 pages in black and 6,500 pages in color. Its ISO print speeds are rated at 13.7ipm (simplex, black) and 7.3ipm (simplex, color); and at draft mode, it can hit a top speed of 33ppm for black and 20ppm for color. The L605’s ISO duplex speeds of 6.5ipm (black) and 4.5ipm (color) and ISO simplex copy speeds of 11ipm (black) and 5.5ipm (color) are also the same as what you get on the L655.
So why does the L605 costs S$90 less? For one, while the L605 has a scan function, it does this via a flatbed CIS scanner. On the other hand, the L655 comes with an additional 30-sheet ADF that makes multi-page copy and scan jobs much easier. The L605 also can’t do fax. If you don’t need these two features, then the other specs of the L605 mirror that of the L655, like a 2.2-inch mono LCD, 150-sheet paper input capacity, wired and wireless networking capabilities, and support for mobile and cloud printing via protocols and services like Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. The Epson L605 also comes with a 2-year warranty or to 50,000 pages, whichever comes first.
