Canon expands its ink tank range with the new MegaTank G3780 and G4780 printers

Canon has announced the launch of two new MegaTank printers that expand its ink tank range, the MegaTank G3780 and G4780 printers.

Designed for SOHO and SMB use, the two new printers use high-yield ink cartridges that can print up to 6,000 pages in black and 7,700 pages in colour from a bundled set of four ink bottles. Swap to economy mode and this increases to 7,600 pages in black and 8,100 pages in colour. The stated print speed for both printers is 11 impressions per minute (ipm) in black and 6 ipm in colour.

For home or SOHO users who don’t print as often, Canon says the new printers are compatible with the GI-71S low-cost ink bottles, which cost S$10 a bottle to replace and can print between 3,700 to 4,400 pages. This is S$5 a bottle cheaper than the normal GI-71 ink cartridges that the printers use.

To help SOHO and SMB users meet their high-volume print needs, both of the new printers have automatic duplex printing, but only the MegaTank G4780 has an auto document feeder (ADF). Why printer manufacturers still deliberately leave out an ADF is something which we find so strange.

The MegaTank G3780 is equipped with a 1.35-inch LCD display, while the MegaTank G4780 comes with a 2.7-inch colour touchscreen display. Both come built into a panel that tilted for maximum visibility so users don’t need to strain themselves to enter options.

One noticeable lack on both new MegaTank printers is a paper cassette, with the MegaTank G3780 and G4780 printers both having a rear paper feed.

The MegaTank G3780 and MegaTank G4780 are now available from the official Canon online store and Canon authorised dealers for S$399 and S$439 respectively.
