Lian Li released an 8.8-inch display that can sit in your PC, or on your desk

Your PC case just became more personalised.

Lian Li is no stranger to being experimental with its products, though this one might take the cake. The company has unveiled a new display that’s meant to be mounted on your PC as a way to monitor and get stats for your components, like the CPU and GPU.

The name of the product, the 8.8-inch Universal Screen (US88v1), is a bit of a mouthful, but it’s similar to what manufacturers have been doing with integrating displays into their case; in fact, Lian Li unveiled a case earlier this year with a built-in display that’s also 8.8-inches, the Vector V200. This time, though, the company is focusing on modularity with the US88v1.

The US88v1 is USB-powered either via a motherboard USB 9-pin header or simply through a Type-A port on the rear I/O, and can be controlled via Lian Li’s L-Connect 3 software; no need for a GPU connection here.

A couple examples of how this could be mounted on your PC, in this case a Lian Li O11 Vision Compact (left) and A3-mATX (right).

Lian Li showcased a few different ways you can mount the US88v1. These include 120mm and 140mm fan mounts via an adapter bracket, or via adhesives, as the back of the US88v1 is flat. The mount itself also a sliding rail and hinge system for vertical and horizontal adjustment of the display.

The display itself is a 1920x480 IPS LCD, with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a max brightness of 500 nits. It supports landscape and portrait orientation, and Lian Li says that, apart from system stats, you can also put media or personalised content on it. There’s also an offline clock mode for when the PC is off but power is still being delivered.

The US88v1 is also capable of being a secondary display, and if you squint, you can also see an ARGB lighting frame around the screen.

Additionally, L-Connect 3 supports multiple US88v1 displays so you can mount a couple of these to your PC, or even have one as a secondary display on your desk, as L-Connect 3 also supports that functionality via a toggle in the app, and the display can be propped up via its mount.

Pricing and Availability

The Lian Li 8.8-inch Universal Screen (US88v1) is retailing for US$84.99. There’s no word on SGD pricing or a solid release date but we do know it will be available at retail between October to November.
