Apple's Vision Pro headset is one of the most exciting pieces of new hardware to be released in the past decade. I had the chance to experience it earlier this year at WWDC 2023 and I was blown away by its possibilities.

And now, Unity has just announced that its PolySpatial development platform for visionOS is now available in beta.

PolySpatial was developed in collaboration with Apple and it gives developers the ability to create and port over 3D experience built using the Unity engine for the Vision Pro headset.

According to Unity, by combining PolySpatial technology with Apple's RealityKit-managed app rendering, content that's created in Unity will have "a unified look and feel" alongside other apps in visionOS.

Ralph Hauwert, SVP & GM, Unity Runtime, Editor and Ecosystems, said:

With Unity PolySpatial, we are making it more efficient and streamlined for developers to create all new immersive experiences using the Editor they know and love. This is core to our promise of enabling developers to create once and ship anywhere.

Crucially, developers are already using the platform to get games ready for VisionPro. Triband, the studio behind crowdfunded Apple Arcade game "What the Golf?" is already using PolySpatial to get its game ready for visionOS and the VisionPro headset.

That said, Unity hasn't said when PolySpatial will be available for public release, though developers who have signed up for the beta are said to be given early access in batches starting now.
