Unity launches beta for Apple’s VisionOS platform to bridge Unity Creators and Apple's Vision Pro technology

This announcement has exciting implications for other Unity developers, including gaming company Capcom.

Unity has unveiled its latest offering in the form of a beta program for Apple’s visionOS, featuring Unity PolySpatial. The new offering aims to push the boundaries of immersive and interactive experiences by enabling developers to build content for visionOS, previewing directly from the Unity Editor to Apple Vision Pro.

By pairing Unity's new PolySpatial technology with Apple's RealityKit-managed app rendering, Unity's visionOS facilitates a cohesive and visually stunning user experience. According to Unity, the company has been in close collaboration with Apple to ensure seamless support for visionOS and PolySpatial, enabling users to dive into their favourite Unity apps in Apple's new spatial environments from day one.

This latest offering from Unity has the potential to bring game developers to the forefront of Apple's new platform. One such company is Triband, known for its acclaimed What The ...? games series. They've been utilising Unity PolySpatial to adapt their popular game, WHAT THE GOLF?, for Apple Vision Pro.

Peter Bruun, CEO of Triband, spoke highly of the potential benefits: “Unity’s multi-platform support and comprehensive development tools allowed us to leverage our existing Unity knowledge and repurpose content from our games to create a fun experience that works great on Apple Vision Pro."

This announcement has exciting implications for other Unity developers, including gaming company Capcom. These developments will, without a doubt, open new doors for potential collaborations between Apple and Capcom, although no official statements have been made to that effect.
