The new Samsung BioActive Sensor comes with three new upgrades: boosting performance of light-receiving photodiodes, additional colours of light-emitting diodes, and optimal arrangement.

Samsung just announced a new BioActive Sensor for the next Galaxy Watch and previewed its new features ahead of its 10 July Galaxy Unpacked event

The South Korean company says the new BioActive Sensor comes with three main upgrades. They are:

  • boosting the performance of light-receiving photodiodes
  • adding extra colours of light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
  • optimal arrangement across the sensor

To enhance the performance of the light-receiving photodiodes, Samsung says it managed to lower the number to maintain capacity from eight to four. This frees up space to integrate a larger number and variety of LEDs and to ensure an optimal arrangement.

Besides having more green, red and infrared LEDs, the new BioActive Sensor also includes blue, yellow, violet and ultraviolet LEDs

Along with an optimal arrangement of LEDs, Samsung claims the BioActive Sensor has superior accuracy and better performance across a wide range of health metrics including heart rate (30% more accurate in tracking during intensive exercises than the Galaxy Watch6), sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and stress levels.

All in all, the new BioActive Sensor can offer new possibilities in the preventive wellness space. The first of these preventive care features is an advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index, which is a biomarker that gives a snapshot of your biological age so that you can make more informed decisions about your wellness journey towards a healthier future.

More advanced health and wellness features will be shared at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 10 July.
