Research company Slice Intelligence is back with an update on the sales of Apple Watch devices in the U.S and statistics seem to paint a rosy picture for Apple.

According to its latest data analysis of email receipts, Apple has sold an estimated 2.79 million units of its first smart watch as of mid-June. In addition, data reveals that almost 20% of Apple Watch owners are also buying spare Watch bands and Apple is in a good position to generate more profits.

Technology research firm IHS recently revealed that it only takes US$2.05 to make the entry-level sports band which retails for US$49. While it is just an estimate without taking into account the costs of packaging and shipping, sales of Watch bands have the potential to be a valuable stream of profits for Apple. In terms of popularity, the black sports band ranks as the top choice followed by the US$149 Milanese loop.

Slice Intelligence previously estimated one million pre-orders for the Apple Watch in the U.S on 24th April. Apple will be launching the Apple Watch in 7 more countries next Friday, 26th June with more native apps on the way and watchOS 2 available later this year.
