Qualcomm to launch new chips for Wear OS later this year

It's been two years since Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 2100 chip for wearables.

Qualcomm is launching new chips for Wear OS later this year, which is more than two years after it introduced the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip for wearables.

Pankai Kedia, who is Qualcomm's senior director of wearables, revealed to Wareable that the new platform chips will be announced in fall alongside a flagship smartwatch and "several partners" will follow up with new Wear OS devices by the holiday season.

While Kedia did not reveal specifics about the new chips, he states that the new chips are "designed from the ground-up for a no-compromises smartwatch experience". The new chips have been in development since 2016 and will come in several variations. They are also said to bring the best fitness and watch experience together with better battery life.

Kedia expresses confidence in the new platform chips and believes it "will significantly change the Wear OS ecosystem". Samples are currently being shipped to customers and Kedia describes the developments as "very exciting".
