Oppo has announced its first smartwatch, the Oppo Watch which comes with several interesting features.
The Chinese company claims the Oppo Watch is the first smartwatch to use a 3D flexible hyperboloid display, a design which is typically reserved for smartphones. The 1.9-inch AMOLED display has an "ultra-frameless" design with a 72.76% screen-to-body-ratio and a resolution of 402x476 pixels.
The Oppo Watch is also relatively slim with a 4.5mm aluminium frame. It uses an integrated 3D ceramic design on the back. Like the Apple Watch, bands can be easily removed by pushing a single button.
To maximize battery life on the Oppo Watch, the company developed its own Dual-Chip Endurance System. The Dual-Chip Endurance System allows the user to switch between Smart Mode and Power Saver Mode by using two different chipsets (Snapdragon and an Apollo chipset). In Smart Mode, the Oppo Watch has a 40-hour battery life on a single charge while Power Saver Mode gives the user up to 21 days of usage on a single charge. However, only basic functions such as notifications are enabled in Power Saver mode.
Oppo also developed its own fast charging technology for the smartwatch. Known as Watch VOOC Flash Charging technology, it fuels up the battery to 100% in 75 minutes. In addition, a 15-minute charging time can give 46% charge which is estimated to deliver up to 18 hours of usage.
Other features include eSIM support, an internal app store, music playback, a heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, mobile payment, activity tracking and monthly cycle monitoring for female users. As for OS, there may be versions tailored to different markets. The currently unveiled version runs on ColorOS Watch which is based on Android.
The Oppo Watch will be available globally, and will go on sale in China from 24 March.
