Omate unveils smartwatch for kids at MWC 2016

In partnership with family mobile safety and location-based alert services specialist Monitorlinq, Omate unveiled the Wherecom K3 which is the world's first kid smartwatch powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is designed for kids between the age of six and nine. Here's a quick rundown of its specs:

  • 1.54-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels 
  • MT6572M dual-core 1.0GHz processor 
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage space 
  • 3G micro-SIM card slot
  • microphone and loudspeaker
  • 6-axis accelerometer 
  • 600mAh battery 
  • 38 x 37 x 13.9mm
  • Removable 20mm standard strap

Do not belittle the Wherecom K3. Its 600mAh battery can last up to two days on a single charge and provides accurate tracking via GPS, 3G GSM cellular networks and Wi-Fi hotspots. It is compatible with iOS and Android devices. 

Omate states that the Wherecom K3 will be available in retail stores from April 2016 for US$129 (~S$181). Monitorlinq's services will be accessible on the Omate Wherecom K3 through several GSM mobile network operators and insurance companies from June 2016.
