The Apple Watch Ultra uses an OLED display.
It could be a long wait for the Apple Watch with microLED.
Citing information from the TrendForce report, TheElec claims the Apple Watch Ultra with microLED might only arrive in the first quarter of 2026. This could be due to the complexity of the new display technology.
The Apple Watch Ultra with microLED was initially said to arrive in 2024 according to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu. Bloomberg also shared a similar prediction. Display analyst Ross Young claimed otherwise, stating that it would launch in the spring of 2025 before revising the timeline to the second half of 2025 in his most recent report.
Nikkei Asia recently published an article detailing Apple's ambition to manufacture its own microLED displays. Despite having spent at least $1 billion R&D, Apple's microLED technology is believed to be still at the sample stage.
