It's official - Tag Heuer is entering the smart watch market with the partnership of two major tech companies.
The announcement was made two days at BaselWorld, one of the world's most famous watch shows in Switzerland. Tag Heuer will be working with Intel and Google to offer the first luxury smart watch powered by Android Wear.
The collaboration among the three companies is seen as a response to the Apple Watch and an attempt to strengthen Android Wear's presence in the smart watch space where current devices are mainly targeted at the mass consumer segment.
Tag Heuer announced its plans to release a smart watch in December 2014 with availability expected this summer. The company's interim CEO Jean-Claude Biver reportedly criticized the design of the Apple Watch and said that "it was designed by a student in their first trimester.” It would be interesting to see what the three companies can come up with in the near future.
