Research firm IDC has found that the wearables market is dominated largely by more affordable fitness trackers.
According to their findings, consumers are gravitating toward simple fitness trackers instead of smartwatches.
They believe that this is largely due to the affordability of these trackers. And also partly because most of these trackers have smartwatch-like functions.
In their research, IDC found that these fitness trackers accounted for a whopping 85% of the wearables market.
But more importantly, it enjoyed double digit-growth in the third quarter of 2016.
Fitbit was the runaway leader of the wearable market with a market share of 23%. That’s about 6.5% more than second-place Xiaomi. Fitbit shipped an estimated 5.3 million units in that quarter.
Apple and its more costly Apple Watch trailed in fourth place with a market share of 4.9%. However, the Apple Watch remains to be the best-selling smartwatch.
