The Fitbit Ionic was released in 2017.
Fitbit is recalling its second smartwatch, the Ionic due to burn hazard.
The company shared that it is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to recall the Ionic smartwatch after receiving over 100 reports of its battery overheating and burn injuries.
According to the CPSC, Fitbit received at least 115 reports of the battery overheating and 78 reports of burn injuries in the U.S. 59 reports of battery overheating and 40 reports of burn injuries were from international markets.
While the reported cases constitute less than 0.01% of the devices sold, Fitbit is voluntarily recalling the Ionic "out of an abundance of caution". About one million Ionic smartwatches were sold in the U.S with an additional 693,000 sold globally.
Fitbit advises customers to stop using the Ionic smartwatches and contact the company to receive pre-paid packaging to return the device. Consumers will be issued a refund and receive a discount code for 40% off select Fitbit devices.
