The lunar new year is approaching and it will soon be the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is significant because it is often associated with power and good fortune.
To mark the occasion, Casio has released a special limited edition G-Shock called the MTG-B3000CXD-9A Dragon.
Based on the MTG-B3000, which was released last year, the MTG-B3000CXD Dragon differs from the standard MTG-B3000 watches with its striking black and gold colour scheme and eye-catching gold bezel.
Dubbed by Casio as "金甲神龙", which translates to "Golden Armour Divine Dragon," the watch's gold ion-plated bezel and band keeper are both laser-machined and etched to mimic the look of a dragon's scales.
The colour scheme is eye-catching, to say the least. (Image source: Casio)
The textured dial also features a scale pattern and the caseback has an image of a dragon rising.
Like all other MTG-B3000 watches, this watch has a Dual Core Guard structure, which means its module is protected by a carbon-reinforced resin case and enclosed by the metal case.

It's functionally identical to other MTG-B3000 watches too, so it has functions like Tough Solar, Multiband 6, world-time, alarms, chronograph, and more.
I'll reserve judgment until I see it in the flesh, but there can be no doubt that it will command a lot of wrist presence. Its striking colour scheme and unique bezel will not escape attention. Though it's not a numbered edition, production will likely be be small and it should be a fairly collectable model for G-Shock enthusiasts.
Availability and pricing
The Casio G-Shock MTG-B3000CXD-9A Dragon will be available from 5 January on the Casio Online Store and is priced at S$1,599. Each purchase will come with G-Shock Year of Dragon red packets.
