2024 is a special year for both Baby-G and Hello Kitty. It marks the 30th anniversary of the former and the 50th anniversary of the latter. To celebrate, the two have come together to create a special watch.
The watch is called the Hello Kitty Collaboration BGD-565KT, which is based on the classic square design of the very first Baby-G watch.
The Hello Kitty Collaboration watch shares the white, red, and blue colour scheme of the original design of Hello Kitty from 1974.

The dial is rendered mostly white, except for the top right corner which is decorated by Hello Kitty's iconic red ribbon. If you activate the backlight, you'll see Hello Kitty's face on the dial – which nicely complements the ribbon at the top right.
The white band is decorated with Hello Kitty motifs and the caseback features an engraving of Hello Kitty and the fact that the watch celebrates the anniversaries of the two storied brands. It will also come in a Hello Kitty-themed packaging.

Like all Baby-G watches, this watch is highly resistant to shock and has a water resistance rating of 100 metres. It has functions like a 1/100-second stopwatch, a multi-function alarm, and a countdown timer.
Some of Casio's collaborative pieces can be a tad over the top, so I'm glad they decided to take a more subtle approach with this watch. The little details that pay homage to Hello Kitty are also thoughtful. I really like how they integrated her face into the backlight and how it all works with the ribbon on the dial. The price is also relatively affordable, so I'm sure it will be snapped up by a lot of Hello Kitty fans.
