If you are hoping to get your hands on Apple's upcoming wearable device this holiday season, don't get your hopes too high and better start saving for it.

According to John Paczkowski of Re/code, "sources in position" told him that the wearable device will not be in the market for a few months. John expects the device to hit retail shelves in early 2015.

Re/code - "It’s not shipping anytime soon,” said one. So when does Apple plan to ship its eagerly anticipated wearable? That’s not clear, but my understanding is that we’re unlikely to see it at retail until after the holiday season — think early 2015.

In addition, the wearable device is said to come with a premium price tag of US$400. It is unclear whether Apple will finalize the price in time for the event on September 9, but sources claim that there is a range of prices for different models.

Production issues are said to be the main reason for the delay based on a report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo stated that Apple is facing  "a much higher level of difficulty" on its first wearable device in the aspects of component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software.

Apple is holding a media event on September 9 at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of De Anza College in Cupertino, where it is expected to announce two new iPhone 6 models and the wearable device.
