Apple has just announced watchOS 4, the next version of its smartwatch OS. The updates to watchOS 4 aren't as drastic as watchOS 3, but do add some nice quality-of-life improvements and some interesting new features.

watchOS 4 includes new features for watchfaces, including complications that update based on the time of day or location, and a new Siri-based watchface. The Siri watchface uses machine learning to determine what to display to you. For example, it can show you your flight boarding passes, the time the sun sets, or smart home control.

Apple is also introducing a new kaleidoscope watchface, and Woody, Jesse, and Buzz from Disney's Toy Story franchise join Mickey and Minnie Mouse as official watch faces.

WatchOS 4 will also bring updates to fitness tracking, including a new user interface for the workout app and new integrations with gym equipment manufacturers. These integration will provide information such as incline and intensity to the Watch for more accurate workout tracking. Your watch will be able to link to compatible gym equipment via NFC.

Music management has also been improved for watchOS 4: you'll now be able to automatically import Apple Music playlists and the watch can now support multiple playlists.

Developers can access a preview version of watchOS 4 starting today, while the public release is slated for later this year.
