Apple continued to maintain its lead in the global smartwatch market.

According to Counterpoint's Global Smartwatch Shipments Tracker, the Apple Watch user base exceeded the 100-million mark for the first time at the end of Q2. Senior analyst Sujeong Lim attributed its success to the attractive designs, health features and related services in the Apple ecosystem.

Overall, the global smartwatch market grew 27% YoY as consumers become more health-conscious during the pandemic. Counterpoint noted that Samsung and Garmin saw significant shipment growth YoY. The steady popularity of the Galaxy Watch 3and Watch Active2 helped Samsung make a quick recovery from the sluggish performance in 2020. Garmin saw its highest shipments ever during Q2.

In terms of sales numbers, the Apple Watch Series 6 took the crown followed by the Apple Watch SE. The Galaxy Watch Active2, Apple Watch Series 3 and Imoo Z6-4G rounded up the top five.
