At Apple’s recent “It’s Glowtime” event, the company announced a new sleep apnea detection feature for its Apple Watches.

The feature uses the Apple Watch’s accelerometer to detect small movements in the wrist that are usually associated with breathing interruptions.

During the event, Apple said that it expects clearance from the FDA and other regulatory bodies soon and that it should be available in over 150 countries and regions later this month.

Well, that time is now.

With the release of watchOS 11, Apple also announced that the feature will be available on the new Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Series 9 in over 150 countries and regions.

This list of countries and regions includes Singapore, the US, the UK, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, and many more. You can see the full list here.

To turn on sleep apnea detection, make sure you have updated to iOS 18 and your watch is running watchOS 11.Then go to the Health app, tap on your profile in the top right, and go to Health Checklist. You should see a tab that says Sleep Apnea Notifications. Tap “Set Up” below it and follow the on-screen instructions.

For sleep apnea to work, you need to wear the watch consistently to sleep over a 30-day period. If it senses that you have frequent breathing disturbances, you will receive a notification of possible sleep apnea and a PDF report that you can show your doctor.
