Apple continued to dominate the global smartwatch market in Q1 2021 according to data from Counterpoint Research.
The global smartwatch market grew 35% YoY in Q1 2021 with Apple capturing 33.5% of the market. Apple saw market growth of 50% YoY thanks to the huge demand for the Apple Watch Series 6.
Samsung also shipped 27% more smartwatches in Q1 2021 compared to the same period a year ago due to the popularity of its Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active series.
While Google failed to capture any meaningful market share, Counterpoint Research believes the integration of Wear OS and Tizen OS will help turn the tide by tapping on the existing 3.5 billion Android user. The conoslidation is likely to attract more developers to build better experiences for the Wear platform.
