Apple is reportedly using 3D printers to build some Apple Watch Series 9.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims Apple and its suppliers have been developing the 3D printing technique for at least three years. For the past few months, Apple has been testing it with the stainless steel cases for the Apple Watch Series 9.

Gurman says Apple plans to use the same process for the Apple Watch Ultra, but the company is currently aiming for 2024.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in July that the next Apple Watch Ultra might have 3D-printed parts as supply chain sources indicated Apple is "actively adopting 3D printing technology".

Gurman's sources shared that 3D printing cuts down production time and is more environmentally friendly because it uses fewer materials. Therefore, 3D printing has the potential to streamline Apple's massive supply chain across its products over the next few years.

Apple will be unveiling the iPhone 15 lineup on 12 September (13 September, 1am SGT) alongside the Apple Watch Series 9 and the next Apple Watch Ultra.
