Besides switching to an OLED display for the 2017 iPhone, Apple is also rumored to be changing the current OLED display of the Apple Watch next year.

Citing information from Taiwan-based supply chain makers, DigiTimes claims that Apple may be using micro-LED displays for the 2017 Apple Watch. The micro-LED panels have sizes ranging from just one micron to 100 microns, and are currently more costly to produce than LCD displays. Micro-LED displays are supposedly brighter and consume less power than current display technologies.

If you recall, Apple acquired a micro-LED display maker in 2014. It also reportedly set up a lab in northern Taiwan for micro-LED research and development in April 2015. The 2017 Apple Watch is said to be released as early as the second half of the year.
