Oura, the Finnish health technology company best known for its smart ring lineup, has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission against Samsung and three other companies.

In the filing, Oura alleges that Samsung (Galaxy Ring), Reebok (Reebok Smart Ring), Zepp Health (Amazfit Ring), and Nexxbase (Luna Ring) have infringed on several of its patents covering internal and external components, as well as manufacturing methods.

None of the four companies have paid royalties for the use of its patented technologies, making the importation and sale of their products in the US “unlawful”.

Oura maintains that royalty-based licensing provides a clear and fair pathway for companies to bring compliant products to consumers while respecting its intellectual property rights and accelerating innovation in the smart ring space.

It added that patent disputes with Circular, RingConn, and OMATE had been resolved, pointing to these cases as evidence of how licensing agreements can support compliance and drive the industry forward.
