It is said that wearable technology and smart watches in particular are the next big thing. And the latest to join the fray is probably also the least likely name of them all - HP. According to the latest news and rumors, HP is planning to launch a smart watch this fall in collaboration with designed Michael Bastian and online retailer Glit.

Michael Bastian was the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year in 2011 and has had positions in firms such as Tiffany & Co., Polo Ralph Lauren, and most recently, Bergdorf Goodman. Glit, on the other hand, is an online shopping website offering designer labels and has over 6 million members.

Bastian, who designed the watch, said he drew inspiration from automobiles and the look was supposed to evoke the interior of a car. However, we think that it looks more like a mishmash of Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak Offshore and Hublot's Big Bang watches. The watch will feature a stainless steel case and changeable straps that will come in rubber, nylon and leather.

HP will handle all the software and hardware matters, but it is still unclear at this point what software the watch will use and what technical specifications or capabilities it will have.

The watch is rumored to be ready this fall and will be both iOS and Android compatible.
