Google’s Pixel Watch 4 gets a brighter screen and easier repairs

We won’t blame you if most of your attention is taken up by the Google Pixel 10 series phones that were just announced, but you’ll definitely want to check out the new Google Pixel Watch 4 as well.
The 41mm model is available in Porcelain and Obsidian, while the 45mm model is available in Porcelain, Obsidian, and Moonstone colourways.

According to Google, the Pixel Watch 4 reduced its bezels by 15%, resulting in a 10% larger active area.
The Actua 360 domed display is said to have an improved peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and the watch comes with the new Material 3 Expressive user interface (UI) that we covered back in June. We’ll be able to expect fluid, smooth animations, dynamic colour themes and more.
Google promises that the Pixel Watch 4 will be 25% faster while using half the power of its predecessor, and will also have 25% longer battery life. It stated that all these changes were made possible by the watch’s new dual-chip compute architecture.
The smaller 41mm model will provide 30 hours of normal usage and 2 days of usage when in battery saver mode. The larger 45mm option goes up to 40 hours of normal usage and 3 days of usage, respectively. Google also said it can charge from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes, which is 25% faster than before.
Pixel Watch 4 also has IP68-rated dust and water resistance, with a waterproof rating up to 50m depth.
Additionally, this is the first Pixel watch that is serviceable and can be repaired at service centres. This is great news, because previous Pixel watches have been replacement-only. Instead of tossing out the whole watch, individual components (like cracked glass) can be replaced.

Naturally, Google’s Gemini AI assistant will be available on the watch, with a seamless raise-to-talk feature for activating and asking your queries.
On the health-tracking side of things, Google retains metrics like daily readiness score (formerly a Fitbit feature) and real-time targets. Improved tracking tools include sleep tracking, with 18% more accurate tracking across the sleep cycle.
The Pixel Watch 4 also has Loss of Pulse Detection, a feature introduced in the previous Pixel Watch 3. Other safety features include Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, Safety Check and Emergency sharing.
To cap it all off, we get an upgrade to dual-band GPS with SOS satellite communications, which solves one of the quibbles we had when reviewing the previous Pixel Watch 3.
