Singtel to trial test LTE-Advanced with Ericsson and Samsung
Singtel has just announced that it will begin trials using Ericsson's LTE-Advanced technologies and Samsung devices to boost mobile speeds beyond 300Mbps.
LTE-Advanced, also known as tri-band carrier aggregation, is a step up from the current dual-band carrier aggregation LTE networks that Singtel is using. The technology provides bandwidth using three spectrum bands to deliver higher performance.
New phones supporting this technology are expected to be available later this year and users can also expect to enjoy peak downlink speeds of up to 450Mbps - or 50% more than the current maximum 300Mbps. This would translate to faster web browsing and downloading of data.
As part of this collaboration, Ericsson will provide Singtel with its LTE-Advanced technologies and hardware, whereas Samsung will provide devices supporting LTE-Advanced.
According to Singtel, trials of LTE-Advanced will begin in Q2 2015 and will be progressively deployed over the next two years.
