Singtel launches new 5G no-contract SIM-only mobile plans, just in time for National Day

These plans were created after Singtel’s late 2023 study on customer preferences. Do they meet your needs?

Singtel has launched new 5G mobile plans that are no-contract and SIM-only, and the telco has bundled a swath of add-ons based on its customers’ needs.

According to its media announcement, Singtel identified added security (like preventing digital fraud and scams) and roaming data as user priorities, alongside the basic expectations of high-speed connectivity, low latency, and high bandwidth via their mobile data plan.

“Providing good service and better value for our customers is always a top priority for Singtel. These ongoing studies and engagements at various customer touchpoints provide invaluable insights that help us understand their evolving behaviours and lifestyle requirements which strongly influence how we design our products and services. With the new 5G no-contract SIM-only plans, our customers have greater flexibility to choose the plans that meet their digital lifestyle needs and can confidently enjoy using their favourite apps, even when they travel, knowing that they are protected by Singtel’s added defence measures,” said Ms Anna Yip, Deputy CEO, Singtel Singapore and CEO, Business Development.

The new Singtel plans are categorised as Core (S$40 per month), Plus (S$55 per month), and Ultra (S$80 per month). As you go up in pricing tiers, you are allotted more local mobile data, overseas roaming datatalk time, and SMSes.

The bundled roaming data covers 18 destinations, mainly in Asia. The data runs on either 5G or 4G networks, depending on the location. The territories are Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The plans above also include the following perks, with the number of free months offered for each service increasing based on the plan's cost:-

The three new plans above also offer SIM 12 months of access to Singtel’s Cast.sg and the option to get MobileSwop Premium add-on for unlimited phone swap requests and one-time replacement requests.

While optional, these plans are compatible with phones purchased through Singtel’s PayLater programme, along with a monthly cashback to entice its customers. One cashback applies to one device per no-contract, SIM-only plan.

There is another...

There’s a fourth plan called Lite (S$35 per month), but it does not have free Disney+, bundled roaming data, or free Caller ID, nor does the PayLater cashback apply to this tier. However, it’s currently going at a promo price of S$30 per month. This plan still offers 5G network access.

Below is a breakdown of each plan and what they offer. Prices and allotments are before any promotions.

Regarding Singtel's Cast.sg, we found the following from its T&Cs:

"Free 12 months on Singtel CAST is valid for subscription to selected Singtel CAST packs with no minimum subscription period, exclusively for sign-ups with eligible mobile plans. Customer may choose from the following 3 applicable packs on Singtel Online Shop: Education Plus, Lifestyle Plus and Chinese Plus on the $6.01/month pack. Selected Singtel CAST packs are free for the first 12 months and will be chargeable at the prevailing rate from the 13th month onwards."

We’ve also summarised other important notes we found on the FAQ page:

  • Existing SIM Only Plus plan customers will not be affected by this change. They are free to switch to these new plans when their contract ends (these new plans come with additional roaming data and PayLater cashback perks).
  • If you exceed the data allotted, you’ll be charged S$10.90 per GB, with a monthly cap of S$191.51.
  • Singtel Circle members can still get the 10% off bonus (here’s how you qualify)
  • If you purchase roaming data on Singtel, the plan’s bundled data is used first, followed by your additional purchase. The only exception is DataRoam Unlimited Daily, which is used first before the bundled roaming data.
  • If you did not purchase extra roaming data and exceed the allotment while overseas, Singtel automatically selects the cheapest ReadyRoam plan (a feature called AutoReadyRoam).
  • If you switch between these plans while owning a PayLater device, the monthly cashback adjusts accordingly (S$5 cashback on the Core plan becomes S$10 cashback on the Plus plan and vice versa)
  • If you cancel the plan while holding on to a semi-paid PayLater phone, you will need to pay all installments of your phone/device in full.
