Qualcomm to bring 5G connectivity to its 6 and 7 series chipsets in 2020

Qualcomm plans to accelerate 5G commercialization in 2020 by expanding its portfolio of 5G mobile platforms.

Qualcomm announces its plans to accelerate 5G global commercialization at IFA 2019.

Aside from the flagship 8-series mobile platform, Qualcomm will be integrating 5G connectivity into the midrange 6- and 7- Series mobile platforms in 2020. In addition, Qualcomm will share more details on the next generation Snapdragon 8 series 5G mobile platform later this year.The company shared that these mobile platforms will be the first in a roadmap of software-compatible 5G mobile platforms and will make use of the Snapdragon 5G modem-RF system.

12 global brands such as Oppo, Redmi, Vivo, HMD Global and LG plan to use the Snapdragon 7 Series 5G mobile platform in their future 5G devices. Full details of the platform will be revealed later this year. Devices powered by the Snapdragon 6 Series 5G mobile platform are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2020.
