MyRepublic to offer 1,000 free SIM and unlimited data in mobility trial (Updated)
MyRepublic has announced plans to offer 1,000 free SIM cards and unlimited 4G data coverage in a mobility trial in the Jurong Lake District this August. This is part of its efforts to be awarded a license as Singapore's fourth telco. Registration for the trial opens later this week.

MyRepublic last month announced plans to make a bid to become Singapore’s fourth telco, and it now appears to be forging ahead with a mobility trial in the Jurong Lake District (JLD).
Under the trial, 1,000 trial participants will receive free SIM cards and unlimited 4G data in the coverage area. This includes web surfing and making phone calls via apps like WhatsApp. The trial will span a three-month period starting this August, and existing MyRepublic subscribers will be given priority to sign up.
While the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has not yet awarded the fourth telco license, MyRepublic is conducting the trial in JLD under a provisional license that is part of the Government’s heterogeneous network (HetNet) trial. IDA’s HetNet system aims to enable customers and devices to be connected via the best available network any time and everywhere via devices which support different radio access technologies.
The provisional license will allow MyRepublic to offer mobile services only in certain outdoor areas in JLD, like the Jurong East bus interchange and MRT station. But as expected of a trial service, average surfing speeds may fall a little short of existing 4G speeds.
The Internet service provider and telco hopeful has said that it believes that the old days of 10 or 12GB data plans should still be the norm and promised to offer more generous and larger data bundles should it succeed in becoming the fourth telco.
In a comment on its Facebook page, MyRepublic said that registration for the trial would open at the end of the week. We’ll update this space when the trial opens so stay tuned.
